4 of the Best Things to Do During an Idaho Winter

Snowmobiling

Speed through the forest on a snowmobile this winter! There are some great snowmobile rentals in Stanley just moments away from Triangle C Cabins and countless trails for you to explore. Rentals range from by the hour to the entire day so you can fit it into your schedule at your leisure. All of the rental companies also give you the opportunity to rent proper gear so you can stay warm in the cold. Here are some of our favorite companies to rent from:

Backcountry Skiing

Backcountry skiing is one of the most popular Idaho winter activities you can enjoy during your stay at Triangle C Cabins. When you visit Central Idaho, there are mountains as far as the eye can see. This makes the perfect landscape for backcountry skiing! You never know what you might run into on these ungroomed trails, so we recommend going with a trusted guide like Sawtooth Mountain Guides. They know where the best fresh powder is! We can even add a Backcountry Skiing or Avalanche Training Bundle to your reservation.

Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing is one of the best ways to see the beauty of the area in the winter. As you stroll through the forest, you’ll experience intense quiet besides the occasional snow dropping from the trees. While snowshoeing can be quite the workout, all levels can easily enjoy it! Grab some snowshoe rentals from Smiley Creek Lodge and head out on one of the many groomed trails in the area.

Warm up at a Hot Spring

Idaho is full of natural hot springs! These naturally heated pools are a welcome respite from the cold. Because the water is heated underneath the ground before it bubbles up to the surface, these springs stay hot year round. We recommend heading to the Challis Hot Springs. The pools are open Wednesday through Sunday during the winter months and come complete with dressing rooms so you don’t have to change in the cold like other natural pools in the area.
