The Top Stanley Lake Activites
Fishing
One of the best activities to take part during a day visit to Stanley Lake is fishing. The cool, clear waters of the lake are perfect for reeling in a variety of trout species, including rainbow, bull, cutthroat, and brook. Most of the north and west shores are accessible to those casting a line in, and there is a boat ramp near the campground for those bringing their vessel. You can also find a series of streams branching off from the lake that are great spots to fish as well.
Tip: Remember to get a required Fishing License before heading to Stanley Lake with your rod and reel!
Hiking
Stanley Lake Trailhead offers an incredible hiking experience. This 7.3-mile out-and-back trail takes you past Lady Face Falls and features stunning views of McGowan Peak as you gradually ascend towards one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Sawtooths: Bridal Veil Falls. This showcase of cascading water is a sight to behold. It marks the halfway point of the hike, so it’s an excellent place to stop and soak in the views. Then, head back to Stanley Lake to cool off and take a dip!
Swimming
While there are plenty of lake activities to enjoy at our sister property, the Redfish Lake Lodge, swimming is a possibility in several bodies of water in the Sawtooths. In the summer, you can swim in Stanley Lake. Several beaches that stretch along the shore where you can wade into the lake. Expect the water to be chilly but manageable with the warm Idaho sun shining on you.
Wildlife Viewing
Whether you’re standing on the shores of Stanley Lake or hiking to Bridal Veil Falls, you’ll find plenty of wildlife in the area. Birdwatching is especially popular here given an array of shorebirds, raptors, songbirds, and waterfowl call the Sawtooths home. In fact, there are over 219 different bird species in the area.
